Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center has two staffed transitional living facilities located within the eight county area. These facilities provide temporary residence to mentally ill adults who have had a recent discharge from a psychiatric hospital or who need intervention to prevent hospitalization.
Appalachian Phoenix House is a 17 bed fully staffed residential program housing for men and women. Clients focus on learning independent living skills. Medication is monitored by staff. Community involvement is encouraged. Clients participate in socialization activities and are involved in daily structured programs. Harlan Transitional House is a 9-bed facility for adults with mental illness for men and women. Full-time staff monitors medication and provides meals with consultation from a dietician. Clients participate in day treatment, or can enroll in the nearby vocational school for G.E.D. or other vocational skills of their choice. Opportunities exist for other types of community involvement and competitive employment through the use of a job coach.
