WHAT IS CUMBERLAND RIVER COMP. CARE

Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center (CRCCC) is also known as The Cumberland River Regional Mental Health - Mental Retardation Board, Inc. It began operation in 1969 as the Southeastern Kentucky Regional Mental Health - Mental Retardation Board, Inc. In 1971 this group merged with the Upper Cumberland River Regional Mental Health - Mental Retardation Board, Inc. and provided services to the eight counties of Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Rockcastle, and Whitley. This Board is responsible fore the overall operation of eleven outpatient offices operating in the eight counties, as well as the structured day treatment programs and residential treatment facilities.

CRCCC is incorporated as a private, not for profit organization licensed by the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources as a health care provider. By state statutes CRCCC is responsible for comprehensive planning and resource allocation in the areas of mental health, mental retardation/developmental disability, and substance abuse for this eight county area in Southeastern Kentucky. The organization is composed of more than 400 full-time and part-time professionals and support staff. The agency has been Joint Commission Accredited since 1977.

The mission of CRCCC is to insure that all members of our community have an opportunity to achieve their highest potential for living satisfying, productive and valued lives. To this end we are dedicated to developing, organizing and efficiently utilizing resources to plan and provide quality mental health, mental retardation/developmental disability, and chemical dependency services.

We believe all persons should be afforded the opportunity to access community resources. Persons with mental illness, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, developmental delays, and chemical dependency are often devalued. They are segregated from living in the acceptable residence of their choice and from productive participation with their family and friends. The efforts of CRCCC and associated agencies is focused on empowering individuals to make decisions, preserve friendships, increase family involvement, integrate into the community, live satisfying lives, and to be employed in meaningful activities which are challenging and rewarding.
